Hi, Sharon. Thanks for writing!

My son, Ryan, is CEO of a web development company, and he manages my website. I'll pass along your compliment to him. :-)

I'll do my best to answer your questions:

Synthroid is a synthetic thyroid hormone and so does not contain the full range of ingredients contained in natural thyroid hormone, such as Armour thyroid.

I eliminated dairy products for two reasons. First, they leave an acid ash when digested, and second, my doctor believes dairy products are causing allergies in my system.

I'm not sure about the benefits of tanning booths vs. natural sunlight. I'll have to ask my doctor about that one.

I've had a Dexascan every year to document the effectiveness of the natural path I have chosen to follow. At this point, my doctor said I don't need to have any more Dexascans at all! This, because my blood is now in good shape. He said that once the blood is healthy--alkaline pH, clear plasma, no candida yeast indicators, round and undamaged blood cells--the bones will take care of themselves.

I do indeed take a ton of supplements, and I hope to consolidate them and whittle down the expense this year. When I first started seeing Dr. Rogers, he said my adrenal glands were shot, my thyroid was sluggish, and much more. The supplements I take were meant to build up the organs that were in distress. Since I teach Middle School, Dr. Rogers recommended that I stay on the supplements that supply extra nutrients to the adrenal glands because stress is an integral part of my day at my Title I school!

I haven't read Barbara Kingsolver's book, but I will order from Amazon.com right away!

As for the dessicated fruit, what brand to you buy?

Thanks again for writing!

Sandy, you're an inspiration! We women absolutely need to find doctors who understand that prescription drugs with horrific side effects can't compare to a healthy lifestyle! Just last night I was talking with Rose O. of Philadelphia about her journey through the process of maintaining her health by refusing Fosamax and other drugs, and instead moving to an alkaline diet and walking three miles a day. She and I decided to write a book together to help other women in their quest for health in the face of unsettling, anxiety-producing diagnoses that don't mean what many doctors think they mean. I'd love to hear more about your experiences as we write our book. May I contact you through this website in the coming months?

How awesome! Please let us know the outcome of the scan. I still refuse to believe that we need medicine to fight this disease. I just finished a marathon 2 weeks ago and my friends and I mountained bike trails today. What a beautiful fall day! I do have to find a new doctor this winter as the one I have been going to is trying to force me to go on meds. She said she has to insist. Well, no, I don't think so! Anyway, good job and good luck with the scan.

Hi Kathy,
What a terrific website. Did you hire someone to create it? I, too, am a middle school teacher. I am only subbing now, semi-retired. I have a couple questions for you:
What is wrong with Synthroid? You made it sound like that was not a good drug.
I take a low dosage- .075mg

Why are you eliminating dairy products?

Can we get the sun (D) we need from articificial light, eg. tanning booth?
i live in Seattle where "the sun don't shine."

You mentioned taking a bone scan yearly. I was told that every two years is the preferred time. You are getting radiation...Wondering who told you different.

It seems like you take an inordinant amount of supplements. Why aren't you getting what you need from a sensible diet? Have you read Barbara Kingsolver's book,
"Animal, Vegetable, Miracle"?

P.S. For classroom snacks, I like to give dessicated fruit-apples, etc. They come packaged.

All the best to you,
Sharon

Yes, Kate, I was indeed blessed to be looked after so well after my shoulder fracture. It's a good thing I was off for the summer from teaching school! I don't know how I would have managed, if I had had to work. Were your shoulder bones aligned correctly for mending properly, or did you have to have surgery? Are you in a cast, or are you in a sling-and-swath, as I was? I was allowed to let my arm "hang" after four weeks and to move it by swinging it around passively in a circular pattern. Has your doctor allowed that type of movement yet?
