weekly plannerFor Teachers: Part 4 of Balancing School, Home, and Health – Scheduling for Success!

With my total to-do list in hand, I sit down with my weekly planner and pencil in items from the to-do list in appropriate time slots.   If I don’t assign a time slot for task for each task, I have a tendency either to pile up too many tasks to accomplish in one day -or put off finishing jobs that aren’t as fulfilling as others.

Posting large jobs takes special care.  Tasks that take more than an hour to complete must be broken into a series of “mini-jobs” that take less than an hour.  For example:  I have to prepare a PowerPoint presentation for a book study on Purposeful Co-Teaching at my school.  Definitely more than an hour’s worth of work!  I have about two weeks to prepare the entire presentation, and the book contains nine chapters.  So, I will post the preparation for each chapter onto one hour per day for nine days.  By the end of the ninth day, if God so wills, the project will be done!

What if my schedule changes?  What if other tasks come up that are more pressing?  That’s why erasers were invented!  Just erase and re-schedule!

Don’t forget to pencil in time for sleep, prayer,  romance, exercise, relaxation, and hobbies, too!  In fact, why not pencil them in first?  Your body,  soul, and spirit will be glad you did!

JeffersonWelcome to the world, Jefferson Solomon Kline! Born on Sunday at 1:24 am, Jefferson weighed in at a whopping 9 pounds, 11 ounces and 22 inches long. Proud parents, Jacquie and Jason, are beaming, with Jacquie enjoying chocolate chip pancakes and milk after the big event. Time to celebrate, thanking our Lord for a safe delivery and a happy, healthy grandchild!

Sarah and AshleyMy daugher, Sarah, married Dr. Ashley Bourne this past Saturday, September 26, 2009.  What a beautiful wedding they had, surrounded by family and friends who love them.  Congratulations to the happy couple!

It’s been a busy time getting ready for the big day.  Now that they are wed and off on their own, I will have time to get back to writing.  If you’ve written me during the past two weeks, please don’t despair.  I will reply soon!

the-garden-path-david-howellsMy dear Friend (you know who you are),

I’m  so excited that you want to begin this journey! We will walk together, traveling slowly while you get your bearings, then move faster along the path as your way becomes easier and lighter.

Your first step was to pray, but you’re already doing that.   Along with prayer, please do the following:

  • Buy a roll of pH testing tape from your local health food store.  Test your saliva and urine to determine their pH level.  They might not match, but they will still give you an indication of your body’s acidity or alkalinity.
  • Buy some raw almonds, apples, celery, and bottled water for snacks.  Wal-Mart usually has raw almonds for sale in the produce department, and our local health food store (DeLand Bakery and Natural Market) has them, too.  Be sure to eat when you are hungry, even if you only have time for a handful of almonds and a few swallows of water.
  • Take a walk every evening for 10-15 minutes.
  • Look over the recommended foods on the list of alkaline foods, and decide which foods you would most like to start including in your menus.

Also, please consider buying a rebounder from Wal-Mart or Sports Authority and a set of 2-pound or 3-pound hand weights.

That’s all for now.

My Friend, please write me back when you are ready for Step 2 by leaving a comment below and signing it with the name, “Friend.”  🙂

With love and prayers,
Kathy

To-do listFor Teachers: Part 3 of Balancing School, Home, and Health – Creating the “Total To-Do” List

Ever have one of those nights when your mind is overwhelmed with trying to remember all the things you need to do the next day?  Between school, home, and health demands, trying not to forget important events and duties–much less prioritizing them–can make you tired before you even get started!

The solution?  The “Total To-Do” list!  On a legal pad or in a notebook, write down everything you can think of that needs to be done.  Everything!  Leave nothing off the list, no matter how trivial it may seem.  Keep the “Total To-Do” list on the nightstand by your bed at night so that, if you something else pops into your head that might keep you awake, you can write it down.  Keep it with you during the day, so that if a new task comes your way, you can transfer it from your brain to the paper.

It is amazing how calming it is to carry this portable memory with you, releasing you from the strain of trying to remember, remember, remember.

Scheduling your To-Do list the easy way for maximum effeciency and enjoyment!
